Sandman - More Than Rubies

The critically acclaimed comic book series The Sandman is written by Neil Gaiman and published by Vertigo. Covers by Dave McKean howerver artists include Sam Kieth, Marc Hempel, Jill Thompson, Mike Dringenberg, Shawn McManus and Michael Zulli and lettering by Todd Klein. It chronicles the adventures of Dream (of the Endless), who rules over the world of dreams. The Sandman is one of the few graphic novels ever to be on the New York Times Best Seller list, along with Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns.

The Sandman was one of Vertigo's flagship titles. It ran for 75 issues from January 1989 until March 1996 and is available as a series of ten trade paperbacks. It has also been reprinted in a recolored five-volume Absolute hardcover edition with slipcase.

Summary

The Sandman's main character is Dream/Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams. At the start of the series, Morpheus is accidentally captured by an occult ritual and held prisoner for 70 years. Once free Morpheus avenges himself upon his captors, sets about regaining his lost objects of power and rebuilding his kingdom, which has fallen into disrepair in his absence. Morpheus initial haughty and often cruel manner begins to soften as he rediscovers his place in the universe. John Constantine (HELLBLAZER) guest-stars along with other character from the DC Universe.
